EBSCOhost New Interface

This research guide details some of the changes and features to the EBSCO databases starting May 2025.

Ch-ch-ch-changes!

Searching for library materials is about to look different!

Use this guide as a resource to learn about our upcoming changes.

Why the change?

An interface is the way we interact with a system, like the buttons, menus, and search bars we use on a website or app. For example, when you use a smartphone, the home screen and icons are part of its interface.
EBSCO has used customer feedback, usage data, user research, and usability studies to update the EBSCOhost interface. These changes will be in all EBSCOhost databases such as Academic Search Complete, Business Source Complete, and PsycInfo, as well as our Discover@MSU comprehensive search.

What's Changing?

Interfaces help us interact with technologies we are using. The new EBSCOhost interface will change on May 17, 2025 which means a new look and a few minor changes to functions. This guide overviews those changes and provides links to further information.
The new EBSCOhost interface design is based on user feedback to deliver an improved overall user experience in terms of both usability and accessibility. The primary concerns they aimed to address were:
  • Modernizing their Interface: the new interface has a modern, user-friendly layout.
  • Meeting Accessibility Guidelines: the new interface supports accessibility.
  • Adding More Customization Features: text-to-speech, filters that remain applied when a search is modified, and permalinks can be bookmarked directly from the browser address.
  • Creating a Responsive Design: follows the principle of responsive design to facilitate use across all devices.
