Twenty-three interviewees, born between 1823 & the early 1860s, discuss how they felt about slavery, slaveholders, coercion of slaves, their families, & freedom. The almost seven hours of recorded interviews presented here took place between 1932 & 1975.
This collection displays more than 240 items, including books, government documents, manuscripts, maps, musical scores, and plays in the largest black history exhibit ever presented by the Library.
