Springfield area election information: Home

This guide is a master and archive for all candidates and ballot issues that happen in Greene and surrounding counties.

County election procedures

Each county in Missouri has its own election procedure, typically managed by the County Clerk's Office. The following links provide information about election procedures. Such procedures include: registering to vote, listing of polling places, absentee voting, sample ballots, and election results. Not all surrounding counties give details on the Internet.

U.S. Election Assistance Commission

The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) was established after Congress passed the Help America Vote Act of 2002, HR3295. The Election Assistance Commission is "to assist in the administration of Federal elections and to otherwise provide assistance with the administration of certain Federal election laws and programs, to establish minimum election administration standards for States and units of local government with responsibility for the administration of Federal elections, and for other purposes." This commission was spurred into existence because of the controversial 2000 presidential election, which is known for its Florida "hanging chads" and the recount controversy that was eventually settled by the U.S. Supreme Court.

The EAC has a voluntary voting certification program that Greene County, Missouri and nearby counties may participate in. According to their website, Greene County has been certified and uses the EVS 5.2.2.0 election system from the manufacturer ES&S.
