In keeping with ACRL recommendations, the mission, values, and vision statements noted below are regularly updated to reflect the institutional vision statements and strategic plans of both the Libraries and Missouri State University.
To provide K-12 resources and services in a welcoming environment that promotes lifelong learning and strives to meet the instructional, informational, and personal interests of the Greenwood Laboratory School community. These services and resources shall also be available to the larger university community.
21st century learners need access to materials from diverse perspectives, be able to gather and use information effectively, and in an ethical manner. The library strives to continually assess resources and services to meet these evolving needs.
Haseltine Library follows the American Library Association (ALA) Library Bill of Rights. Materials selected for the collection is based on the merit of the work as it relates to Haseltine Library’s mission and its ability to meet the needs and interests of its primary constituents.
Items within Haseltine Library have defined circulation periods for each type of user. The different types of users are found in the “Loan Periods” section of Meyer Library’s Policy page. Overdue items are not fined; lost or damaged items will be charged for the replacement cost of the item.
Haseltine Library utilizes CREW (Continuous Review Evaluation and Weeding). This method utilizes continuous weeding of outdated and unused materials from the collection while also identifying collection gaps or the need for new items. All withdrawn materials are clearly marked before being removed.
Inventory of the Haseltine collection happens throughout the year, with the bulk of this activity occurring during the summer.
All Greenwood Laboratory students sign a school-wide acceptable use policy statement. Responsible, ethical, and legal behavior is also expected from each Haseltine Library user. Each user must respect the rights of all other users on the Internet and must be responsible for their own actions involving school computers, networks, files, passwords, and accounts.
Haseltine Library is committed to providing excellent library services, but it is not the role of the library to provide short or long-term after school care. To ensure the safety of our younger students (grades K-5), a parent, caregiver, or older sibling (grades 6-12) must accompany and remain in the library with K-5 students after school. Any K-5 student in the library after school without an appropriate caregiver will be accompanied to the office, so a parent may be contacted.
While requests to volunteer are appreciated, Haseltine Library is extremely limited in the ability to utilize volunteers. All requests to volunteer should be directed to the Haseltine Library Associate or the Haseltine Librarian.
Haseltine Library upholds every patron’s right to read and follows the American Library Association (ALA) Library Bill of Rights and the Freedom to Read Statement. Any individual challenging an item housed at Haseltine Library should meet with the Haseltine Librarian. If a suitable solution is not reached, then the individual must complete a Request for Reconsideration form and submit it to the Haseltine Librarian. This written request will then be reviewed by the Head of Educator Resources, the Haseltine Librarian, the Associate Dean of Library Services, and the Dean of Library Services. A determination will be made in accordance with Haseltine Library and MSU Libraries policy and procedures. The individual or organization listed on the Request for Reconsideration form will receive a final written response within 90 days of submitting the form. Challenged materials remain in the collection throughout the reconsideration process.
