Other subject area tutoring by appointment
The Missouri State University Learning Commons is located in Meyer library. The Bear Claw (Center for Learning and Writing) is a new interactive space on the first floor of Meyer Library that unites the resources and expertise of the faculty, library personnel, computer and information technology, the Writing Center, subject-area tutoring, and supplemental instruction in an environment that fosters informal, collaborative work, and social interaction. This summer, students were tutored in Math courses and received assistance from the Writing Center in the Meyer library.
Services will be expanded as student demands and University resources change. The goal of the subject-area tutoring will be to provide a tutor for any subject that a student request. Additionally, we will be working with appropriate departments on campus to coordinate the delivery of a variety of workshops designed to improve student success skills, such as time management, study skills, writing skills, etc. that impact overall student retention.
The Bear Claw will also provide a number of highly qualified students with employment or volunteer service opportunities for experience in peer tutoring. A limited number of students may also serve on a student advisory board. Graduate students in the Student Affairs Master’s program may participate in a practicum for their program.
Watch for more information on the Learning Commons as this new student centered resource develops.
